The National Chicken Council is slated to testify next week before the Energy and Power Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.  Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) announced this week that the subcommittee will hold a two-day hearing next week entitled “Overview of the Renewable Fuel Standard:  Stakeholder Perspectives.”  Bill Roenigk, former National Chicken Council senior vice president and chief economist, and now a NCC consultant, will testify on behalf of NCC.

The two-day hearing will feature testimony from three panels of stakeholder witnesses including fuel users, developers, and representatives from the agricultural and environmental communities.  Roenigk will testify on Wednesday, July 24 and will discuss the substantial burden on the chicken industry of higher feed costs as a result of the Renewable Fuel Standard.

In addition to NCC, representatives from the National Corn Growers Association,  Environmental Working Group, National Council of Chain Restaurants, and Dr. Christopher A. Hurt, professor of agricultural economics, Purdue University, will appear before the subcommittee.
