Chicken exports in May this year were 295,900 metric tons valued at $364.37 million compared with 296,155 tons valued at $375.48 million in May 2012, a 0.1 percent slip in quantity and a drop of 3.0 percent in value. Mexico in May was again the leading parts market with 67,372 tons valued at $64.97 million, a 51.6 percent increase in tonnage and a 28.1 percent increase in dollars. Second largest parts market China took 22,374 tons valued at $27.47 million, a 23.5 percent increase in quantity and a 15.0 percent increase in value. Eleven of the top 15 parts markets had increases in both quantity and value. For the top 15 markets combined the quantity was up 1.7 percent while the combined value was off 2.9 percent. Parts exports to “other countries” were off 4.6 percent in quantity and down 3.1 percent in value.

Chicken parts exports during January-May 2013 totaled 1,441,179 tons valued at $1,774.12 million, 1.1 percent less than the 1,456,661 tons during the first five months of last year and also 1.1 percent less than the $1,793.73 million during year earlier. Mexico by a significant margin was the leading parts destination with 257,682 tons valued at $284.29 million, a 26.1 percent increase in quantity and a 24.3 percent increase in value. Eight of the top 15 parts markets had increases in both quantity and value during the first five months this year. Together the 15 largest parts countries had a 2.7 percent gain in quantity and a 1.3 percent rise in value. On the other hand, “other countries” experienced a 9.4 percent drop-off in quantity and a 6.6 percent fall in value.
