Chicken exports this April were 294,991 metric tons valued at $372.80 million compared with 293,484 tons valued at $370.12 million in April 2012, an increase of 0.5 percent and 0.7 percent for quantity and value, respectively. Mexico was again the leading parts market with 51,047 tons valued at $62.93 million in April 2013, 31.2 percent ahead of a year earlier for quantity and 39.8 percent more for value.

China was again the second leading parts market this April with 22,677 tons valued at $28.00 million, experiencing a 107.5- percent increase in quantity and 94.4-percent increase in value. Ten of the top 15 parts market registered gains in tonnage while eleven had increases in value. The top 15 markets combined had gains in both quantity (5.9 percent) and value (5.5 percent). “Other countries” combined had a 10.1-percent decrease in tonnage and a 9.3-percent decrease in value when April 2013 is compared with April 2012.

For the first four months of this year, chicken parts exports totaled 1,145,279 tons valued at $1,409.74 million compared with 1,160,506 tons valued at $1,418.24 million during January-April 2012, a 1.3 percent slip in quantity and a 0.6 percent drop in value. Nine of the top 15 markets had increases in both tonnage and value. For the top 15 parts markets combined tonnage was ahead by 3.4 percent while value rose 2.5 percent. For “other countries” however the quantity was off 11.4 percent and the value was down 7.7 percent when January-April 2013 is compared with the first four months of last year.
