USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has accepted the National Chicken Council’s request to conduct a webinar on the mandatory country-of-origin (mCOOL) rules as they pertain to chicken. AMS is developing a presentation for the webinar to explain the labeling changes and issues for muscle cuts of meat that result from the recently published mCOOL final rule.  Also, AMS will be available during the webinar to answer questions submitted by webinar participants. A brief guidance document that summarizes the primary changes in mCOOL labeling for muscle cuts of chicken as a reference and training tool for use by your membership will be made available.

The chicken mCOOL webinar is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, June 12, 2013.  More information about the webinar will be in next week’s issue of the Washington Report. Questions about mCOOL rules for chicken can be submitted to Debra Newman at [email protected]. The questions will be summarized and submitted to AMS prior to the webinar on June 12.

The May 29 Federal Register notice on mCOOL is available here.
