The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is amending its regulations that provide for the irradiation of animal feed and pet food to allow for the safe use of electron beam and x-ray sources for irradiation of poultry feed and poultry feed ingredients, including pet food. FDA said it is taking this action in response to a food additive petition filed by Sadex Corporation. The final rule is effective today, May 10 and the Federal Register notice is available here.
