Chicken exports this March were 313,143 metric tons valued at $377.53 million compared with 297,503 tons valued at $368.62 million in March 2012, an increase of 5.3 percent and 2.4 percent for quantity and value, respectively. Mexico was again the leading parts market with 48,873 tons valued at $54.25 million in March 2013, 17.6 percent ahead of a year earlier for quantity and 16.1 percent more for value.

China was again the second leading parts market this March with 28,690 tons valued at $34.46 million, experiencing a 199.6- percent increase in quantity and 168.7-percent increase in value. Ten of the top 15 parts market registered gains in both tonnage and value. The top 15 markets combined had gains in both quantity (6.7 percent) and value (1.5 percent). “Other countries” combined had a 1.6 percent rise in tonnage and a 5.0-percent increase in value when March 2013 is compared with March 2012.

For the first quarter of this year chicken parts exports totaled 850,287 tons valued at $1,036.94 million compared with 867,022 tons valued at $1,048.13 million during January-March 2012, a 1.9 percent slip in quantity and a 1.1 percent drop in value. Ten of the top 15 markets had increases in tonnage while 11 experienced higher values. For the top 15 parts markets combined tonnage was ahead by 4.8 percent while value rose 3.6 percent. For “other countries” however the quantity was off 16.0 percent and the value was down 11.7 percent when January-March 2013 is compared with the first three months of last year.
