Lawyers for ABC News filed a removal notice to transfer a defamation lawsuit to the federal district court for the District of South Dakota, Southern Division from the Union County Circuit Court in South Dakota, according to Reuters. ABC wants the suit moved to federal district court because it says the parties involved are from different states.
Beef Products Inc. filed a defamation lawsuit September 13 against ABC News alleging the network’s news coverage of lean finely textured beef misled consumers to believe the company’s product was unhealthy and unsafe. The company is seeking $1.2 billion in compensatory and statutory damages, plus unspecified punitive damages.
