The Arkansas Food Bank this week accepted 48,000 pounds of poultry products donated by members of the Poultry Federation for a program combating childhood hunger. Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe joined representatives from Tyson Foods, Simmons Foods, and other member companies of the federation for a news conference just before boxes of donated chicken, eggs, turkey, and other food items were loaded off trucks.

The items will be distributed via food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters around the state as part of the No Kid Hungry Arkansas Campaign, launched in 2010 by the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, Governor Mike Beebe’s office, and Share our Strength.

“It’s just a great day in Arkansas,” said Marvin Childers, president of the Poultry Federation.  “It gives us an opportunity to see our industry come together as a whole to make this donation.  We know the kids in the state need the protein.  So we’re happy to be here.”
