Congressional Chicken Caucus Officially Underway

On February 3, 2012, in Congressional News, by Maggie Ernst

The National Chicken Council is happy to announce the official formation of the Congressional Chicken Caucus as of January 18 2012.  The bipartisan caucus is chaired by Reps. Rick Crawford (R-AR) and Sanford Bishop, Jr. (D-GA), and will attract those Members of Congress who are directly and indirectly involved in the U.S. chicken industry.

The caucus was formed to educate Members of Congress about the issues and concerns of the U.S. chicken industry – a broad palette of issues ranging from the upcoming farm bill to feed availability and environmental concerns.  The caucus will serve as a liaison streamlining communications between Members of Congress and the industry.

In order to continue steady enrollment, and to bolster representation from districts where the industry has significant presence, please reach out to your Members of Congress and encourage them to join the Congressional Chicken Caucus.

In order to join the caucus, a Member should get in touch with either Chris Jones in Rep. Crawford’s office, or Sara McGovern in Rep. Bishop’s office.  The link to the Dear Colleague letter that was sent out by Reps. Crawford and Bishop is located here.

We will update the list of Members who join the caucus weekly.  Please help us by contacting your Members of Congress.

As of this week, Congressional Chicken Caucus membership consists of the following Members:

Rick Crawford – (R-AR), Co-Chair; Sanford Bishop, Jr. – (D-GA), Co-Chair; John Barrow – (D-GA); Dennis Cardoza – (D-CA); John Carney – (D-DE); Jim Costa – (D-CA); Jeff Denham – (R-CA); Phil Gingrey – (R-GA); Tom Graves – (R-GA); Andy Harris – (R-MD); Robert Hurt – (R-VA); Larry Kissell – (D-NC); Mike McIntyre – (D-NC); and Austin Scott – (R-GA).
