The National Chicken Council, along with seven other trade associations, sent a letter to President Obama this week, expressing strong support for the nomination of Michael Scuse to serve as USDA undersecretary for farm and foreign agricultural services. “Few Americans are as qualified for this position as Mr. Scuse.  We strongly support your intention to nominate Mr. Scuse to this important position, ” the letter said.

Scuse has been the deputy under secretary since 2009 and was designated the acting under secretary in January this year. Earlier in his career, he served as secretary of agriculture in Delaware, chairman of the USDA Farm Services Agency’s Delaware State Committee, and was both president and vice president of the Northeast Association of State Departments of Agriculture.  When and if Congress will act upon the nomination is not known.

In addition to the National Chicken Council, the Corn Refiners Association, Grocery Manufacturers Association, International Dairy Foods Association, National Grocers Association, National Oilseed Processors, Pet Food Institute, and the Snack Food Association signed the letter to the president.
