PDQ, a new quick-service restaurant chain, launched its first restaurant last month in Tampa, Florida, according to a report in Nation’s Restaurant News. Outback Steakhouse co-founder Bob Basham and MVP Holdings chief executive Nick Reader are the key executives for PDQ.

Basham and Reader said the concept will emphasize freshness and a blend of speed and efficiency of service coupled with quality and the atmosphere of casual-dining.  A small menu of made-from-scratch chicken dishes is the focus.  More units are expected to open in the southeast next year.  The drive-through will have face-to-face order-taking at the window.  An average check of $6.85 is expected.  The 3,500 square foot restaurant in Tampa cost about $1 million to build and decorate, with $2 million in sales targeted for the first year of operation.  PDQ’s web site is www.eatpdq.com.
